Function / Content

The Temporary Teacher Record Books were created to document any teacher appointments in temporary positions in Victorian government schools in the 1950s and early 1960s. They are arranged by teachers' surnames.

Information may include:

The name of the teacher
The position(s) held
Duties of the position (eg. the subjects being taught)
The class of salary given
The start and finish dates of the temporary placement

Prior to 1959 records of teachers employed on a temporary basis were recorded in the Teacher Record Books, see VPRS 13579 or VPRS 13718 for the microfilm copy of the Teacher Record Books available in the Reading Rooms.

This series was transferred to PROV from the Education History Unit of the Department of Education and Training.

How to use the records

There is no available index for the Temporary Teacher Record Books. The records are arranged in alphabetical order, according to the teacher's surname.

Recordkeeping system

The record books are arranged in alphabetical order. Their exact date range is difficult to ascertain as the alphabetical arrangement places the entries out of chronological order.
