Function / Content

This series comprised self-indexed volumes containing staff record sheets of employees who worked with the Victorian Railway Rolling Stock Branch.

The information recorded includes:

- Name, date and place of birth, address and qualifications
- Date of appointment, classification and
- Other information (date of permanent appointment, resignation, retirement or transfer).

Further research is required to determine the relationship between this series and VPRS 12595 Personnel History Cards, Rolling Stock Branch.

The commencement date of this series is not known. The volumes appear to have been commenced at different times.

It appears that no new employees were added to this series after 1982, at which time a card system was commenced. The employment details of those employees who were still employed were transferred to the card system, VPRS 12597 Employee Record Cards, Transport Operations Branch. However, the agency continued to record personnel information for some employees in this series (VPRS 12596) until 1994.

The P1, P11, P12, P13 consignments of this series have been reprocessed as VPRS 13537, Employee History Sheets, Traffic/Transportation Branch (P1 to P4 consignments).

How to use the records

The Consignment Details include the alphabetical range covered by each volume and the original volume number used when the volumes were stored at the Public Transport Corporation records store. However, the original volume number is not needed to retrieve the records.

The employment history sheets within the volumes were arranged alphabetically by the surnames of employees.
