Public Record Office Victoria holds many record series which relate to employees working in the broad area of transportation in Victoria. These cover a wide range of areas relating to transport: roads, rail, trams, buses, shipping and ports. The coverage is not comprehensive, and is best for rail and train employees or accreditation of a number of railway professions.
What do I need to know before I start?
The dates of employment and keywords such as the specific branch, location or type of work of the person will help narrow your research. Some recent employee records may not be on open access if they divulge personal information and could be closed for up to 75 years from the time they were created.
The searches below are not name searches, as we do not have name data for everyone who was employed by one of the agencies involved in these searches - instead they help you find records where employees names might be found in the original record.
Many of the records relating to employment will be internally organised alphabetically by the family name of employees.
