Background

On 1 October 1985,the Department of Community Services became responsible for family health services being services provided by Visiting Child Health Nurses, Early Childhood Development Co-ordinators and the Infant Welfare Service and family planning services;

The Department of Community Services also became responsible for the administration of a number of benevolent societies and institutions listed in Schedule Two of Administrative Arrangements Order No.37 1985. The institutions and organisations listed provide services to children, families, the aged and people with physical and sensory disabilities.

The same and similar services have continued to be provided by the Children and Family Services Division of the Department of Health and Community Services and the Youth and Family services division of the Department of Human Services (later known as the Community Care Division).
