Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
These records are not available at Public Record Office Victoria and are available through the Geelong Heritage Centre, 51 Little Malop Street, Geelong.

These records have been serialised as part of the PROV Distributed Network Place of Deposit program. Geelong Heritage Centre has been approved as a Place of Deposit for permanent value records for the region under s14 of the Public Records Act 1973.

There is no index to the collection. Users should consult the handwritten description of items making up the collection. The handwritten description can be requested from the Search Desk at the Geelong Heritage Centre.

  • Function / Content
Tramways were operated in Geelong by the Melbourne Electric Supply Company from 1912 to 1930, and then by the State Electricity Commission until 1956, when they were replaced by privately owned buses.
This collection comprises glass negatives, mainly, and some black and white prints. The prints are to be found in Unit 1 only. The earlier material would have been records of the Melbourne Electric Supply Company and would have been inherited by the State Electricity Commission Victoria in 1930.
The material is not subject to any identifiable record keeping system. The prints have some numbers on the back. It is not clear when they were numbered. Items are not arranged in any particular order.

  • Recordkeeping System
There is no identifiable record keeping system.
