Description of this Series
Description of this Series
How to use the Records
These records are not available at Public Record Office Victoria and are available through the Geelong Heritage Centre, 51 Little Malop Street, Geelong.
These records have been serialised as part of the PROV Distributed Network Place of Deposit program. Geelong Heritage Centre has been approved as a Place of Deposit for permanent value records for the region under s14 of the Public Records Act 1973.
Researchers should consult the descriptive booklet from within Unit 1 then call up the Unit(s) containing the photographs that interest them.
Function / Content
This record series comprises a collection of photographs accumulated by the Bellarine Shire. The photographs record people and objects from within the former Shire. The photographs have been taken using black and white film except for some colour photographs from the last few years of the series being recorded.
The photographs are described in a booklet within Unit 1. The photographs have been numbered 1-1200 and are arranged in that order.
Photographs are arranged in sleeves with typed descriptive cards at the back of each photograph. The cards include the name of the subject and the source. The Source is often the Geelong Historical Records Centre (GHRC) (now the Geelong Heritage
Centre). That is, those photographs were accommodated within the GHRC collection before being reproduced by Bellarine Shire/Rural City. The Shire was responsible for taking some of the photographs. The remainder were accumulated by the Shire from other sources.
Recordkeeping System
The photographs are subject to a numerical system of control.
