  • How to use the Records
    ** Special Access Conditions **

Although records transferred from this agency are available for public inspection, special access conditions apply. The records have been transferred to the Public Record Office on the understanding that they remain the property of the Parliament of Victoria. Parliamentary records are transferred on condition that all requests for access will be referred to the Clerk of the Legislative Council/Legislative Assembly as appropriate, for determination in each case.

Application to inspect the records should be made to the appropriate officer and written authorisation must be presented at the Public Record Office Search Rooms before records can be made available for inspection.

  • Function / Content
This series comprises minutes of meetings of the State Development Committee created during the period 1943 to 1982.

The Committee was constituted under the provisions of State Development Act 1941 (No. 4875). The Committee carried out investigations and reported to the Governor-in-Council on housing, land settlement, water conservation, re-afforestation, hospitals, and post-war plans.

Under section 13 of the State Development Act and the regulations issued under the Act, the Committee was required to keep full minutes of the meetings.

This series documents the activities of the Committee.

  • Recordkeeping System
The minutes are bound into volumes for the period 1943 to 1949. From 1950 to 1980 the minutes are loose papers placed in manilla folders and tied in bundles.

The minutes are arranged chronologically by date of the meeting. They are also numbered as follows :

    1943 to 1949 : single number sequence (1 to 550)
    1950 to 1957 not numbered
    1958 to 1960 single number sequence (1 to 370 ??)
1960 to 1980 annual single number sequence.
