Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
There are no control records for this series in archival custody. The files are arranged in annual single number order. From 1984 to 1987 the file number has a B prefix. Researchers should scan the consignment details for the period they are interested in or contact the Employee Relations Commission which has retained custody of the control records in which these files were registered.

  • Function / Content
This series originally contained files documenting Conciliation and Arbitration Board hearings. These hearings pertained to variation to awards, unfair dismissals and industrial disputes. Papers on file will include minutes of the hearing, the original application and the instruments of determination. The portion of the series transferred to PRO custody only contains files concerning award variations.

Files within the series pertaining to unfair dismissals and industrial disputes were authorised for destruction by the Public Record Office. Information on these matters is summarized in the Minute Books (VPRS 5467).

    Subsequent and Related Series

This series commenced in 1983 with the introduction of an annual single number filing system.

This series was created and maintained separately from the case files of the Industrial Relations Commission (VPRS 9599) until 1988. From 1988 the files were incorporated into VPRS 9599 Case Files, which is the subsequent series. The P2 consignment of VPRS 9599 contains all of the extant Board files for the years 1988-1992.

  • Recordkeeping System
These files are registered in an annual single number system. The registration number was allocated when the application or initial piece of correspondence pertaining to the matter was received. In 1984 the annual single number was prefaced by the letter B. For example, file number B84/2 represents the second board file created in 1984.

File numbers were initially allocated from a series of bound registers, changing to a computerised registration system in 1990. In September 1995 these registers were still held by the Employee Relations Commission.

There are no control records for this series in archival custody.

The end series date of this series has been artificially extended to allow a previous/subsequent relationship to be entered on the database.
