  • How to use the Records
    Refer to the consignment details for this series to identify the unit(s) you require.

  • Function / Content
    This series consists of personnel files and, in some cases training files, of senior officers of the SECV. The series consists of a collection of files which were maintained within the office of the Secretary of the State Electricity Commission judging by evidence on the file covers. The purpose for which the collection was created is not clear, however all files in the collection appear to have several things in common:

    * the files relate to officers whose employment was terminated through retirement, resignation or otherwise;

    * the files relate to senior officers with relatively long periods of service with SECV; and

    * many (perhaps all) personnel files contain copies of official minutes of meetings of the Commissioners showing that the officers service was officially recognised.

    The series contains personnel files and training files. The personnel files contain papers which document the employment history with the SEC of the officers. The training files relate to SEC-funded internal or external training and education, scholarships, etc.

    Background

    The files were originally created within the SECs Personnel Registry. It is not clear at what point the files were removed from that system. Some files include papers that were created within VPRS 8892 General Correspondence Files and File Registration Cards.

    In about 1994 the files in the P1 consignment were placed in the Central Registrys secondary storage area. For convenience of control Central Registry placed the files into seven boxes and registered the boxes as items numbered 33DM4301 to 33DM4307 in VPRS 8948 Central Registry Correspondence Files: Single Number Sequence. The files were removed from those boxes and processed as a discreet collection for transfer to the PROV.

    Date range

    It has not been possible to determine the period during which the Secretary maintained the collection of files in his office. The Personnel Registry system of which the earliest files in this series were a part before being removed to the Secretarys office operated from 1978 The commencement date for the series date range is therefore determined to be ?1978 and the end date is c1994 which equates with the approximate date that the files were placed into VPRS 8948. The contents date range of the files is by 1921 to ?1987.
