Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
Refer to the Consignment listing to identify the order the box for the relevant exhibition.

  • Function / Content
This series contains papers and volumes relating to the organisation of the 1892 Diamond Jubilee Exhibition and various 19th Century international and intercolonial exhibitions.

  • Recordkeeping System
Most of the papers have been stored in boxes which have been marked identifying the exhibition(s) to which it pertains. This was a practice that was used through out the 19th and early part of the 20th Centuries by records staff of the Trustees of the Public Library, Museum and Gallery and it is possible that these boxes were removed from a larger record keeping system (such as VPRS 805 or VPRS 4363) for the purposes of transfer to archives. Supporting this is that the context of at least one box (unit 5) appears to have been arranged into folders by Archives Division staff.

None of the papers appear to have been registered on receipt by the Trustees, although it is reasonably clear that much of it was forwarded to them after receipt and registration by the Chief Secretary's Department.

The volumes in the final unit are letter books pertaining to the 1866-67 Intercolonial Exhibition.
