  • How to use the Records
    This series may be used to access files in VPRS 8916 Subject Files: Annual Single Number Sequence (Personnel Department) relating to various claims (wage claims and leave claims) lodged by the Trades Hall Council with the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission in which the SECV had an interest. The index is arranged in claim number sequence. Claim numbers appear to be annual single numbers. These are generally listed on the left side of the cards in the index. On the right hand side of the card the relevant file or files on which papers maintained by the SECV in relation to the case are listed. If a relevant file number reference is located, researchers should consult the records description lists for VPRS 8916 to determine if the file has been transferred in that series.

    The claim files can also be accessed by subject using the subject index cards in VPRS 8918 (see under the heading SECV cases in VPRS 8918).

  • Function / Content
    This series was created by the Personnel Registry of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) (VA 1002) to provide access to the files relating to disputes between SECV and unions representing workers employed by SECV that were lodged to be determined by the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission. It includes references to files that were originally created in VPRS 8892 General Correspondence Files and File Registration Cards that were top-numbered into VPRS 8916.

  • Recordkeeping System
    This series consists of index cards arranged sequentially by Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission Claim annual single number. The cards are grouped by the year in which the original claim was lodged and the cards are arranged sequentially for each year.

    Each card has listed on it at least one claim number, on the left hand side of the card, and the corresponding SECV Personnel Registry file number or numbers, on the right hand side of the card. Frequently the word correspondence is written on the card indicating that the file contains relevant correspondence. Some cards have the word transcripts written and others include summary information about the claim.

    This series was created as part of the recordkeeping system which included the files (See VPRS 8916), a file register (See VPRS 8917), indexes to letters/files by name (See VPRS 8920), by location (See VPRS 8921), by subject (See VPRS 8918 and VPRS 8919) and by classified positions (See VPRS 8922). (For details refer to VPRS 8916).

    Date range

    It is not clear when this series commenced to be created. It was presumably created to enable files from the current system (VPRS 8916) and from the previous system (VPRS 8892) to be quickly located. It is therefore likely to have first been created at the time that VPRS 8916 commenced in 1978 and is assumed to have been continued until 1991 when VPRS 8916 ceased. The last cards in the index refer to cases with 1989 Claim numbers and the earliest card refers to cases dated in 1952.
