In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution Act Amendments Act 1915, section 196 (No.2632), the Governor of Victoria could appoint polling places as enumerated in the schedule of the Act.

This series comprises volumes containing lists of polling places and electoral registrars appointed. Prior to 1918, this series formed a part of the series of Electoral Statistics, VPRS 8186/P1.

The P1 consignment consists of bound volumes and a loose leaf binder which record information on the appointments of polling places from 1918 to 1988 and of electoral registrars from 1937 to 1969. The lists of appointments of registrars for the period 1924 to 1937 are bound in the Salaries of Electoral Registrars and appointments of Registrars. (See VPRS 8188/P1)

The information recorded on polling places includes:
    - name of the province/district
    - name of the division
    - names of polling places

The latter half of the volumes (units two and three) contain pages which record information on the date of appointment/retirement of the registrars, their name and address, name of the division and correspondence number of the division and correspondence number for the period 1937 to 1969.

Polling places for each election from 1924 are listed in the election statistics booklets published by the electoral office. However, this series appears to be the only source of statistics for the period 1918 to 1924.

This series of manually created records appears to have been discontinued in 1980s when a system of compiling the information on a computerised data base commenced.
