Function/Contents
This series consists of index cards created by the Victorian Licensing Court and the Liquor Control Commission to record information relating to approved registered public hall occupiers. The cards are arranged alphabetically by name of the public hall and record additional information under the headings:Location (which records address of the hall); Licensing area; date in; occupier; signatories.
The Liquor Control Act 1968 (No.7695) provided that a permit authorising liquor to be consumed, possessed or controlled on a particular occasion in a public hall could be applied for by the occupier of a public hall who had been approved by the Secretary. The permit could be granted subject to such terms, conditions and restrictions as the Commission saw fit (Sections 45(6) and 45(8)). This series appears to have recorded the premises and the occupiers which had been approved.
While this series appears to have limited informational value it has been retained as the only record extant which represents this function.
The P1 consignment consists of two sequences of cards one containing approximately 80 cards and the other approximately 60 cards. Most cards are duplicated in both sequences as is the information on most, but not all cards. The date range for both sequences of cards is 1966 to 1970.
Some cards have had update information, such as changes to name of occupier or signatories, entered onto the cards. The locations recorded on the cards are predominantly metropolitan and Geelong.
Each card in each sequence has perforations either on the side or bottom of the card, or in both positions, indicating that they may originally have been kept in loose-leaf binders. It is not known why two sequences of cards containing almost identical information were created but it is possible that each sequence was maintained by different people in different areas of the office.
