    Function/Contents

This series consists of books created by the Liquor Control Commission between 1968 and 1970 to record information relating to particular occasion permits (POPs) issued to unlicensed clubs. The exact function of this series is uncertain but it probably served to record payment of fees and to monitor the number of POPs issued annually to individual clubs. Section 45(5) of the Liquor Control Act 1968 (No.7695) provided that no more than twelve POPs could be granted to an unlicensed club in any calendar year.

While this series appears to have limited informational value it has been retained as the only record extant for this period.

    System of Arrangement/Control

Each volume was divided into alphabetical sections into which entries were recorded by name of the club, in rough chronological order by date of the permitted occasion. Pages were ruled with columns to record the name of the club and its location, the date of the function, receipt number, and the type of function permitted.

The P1 consignment consists of two volumes. Unit One has two separate alphabetical divisions from A to Z, each taking up approximately half of the book, while Unit Two has one such division taking up the whole of the book. Entries commence in the first part of Unit One from July 1968 which corresponds to the date that the Liquor Control Commission was constituted. Entries are recorded in chronological order and continue from one part to the next as each alpha section is filled. Some letters, with few entries, are recorded only in the first part of Unit one and Unit two contains entries only for the letters B, C, F and M. All entries in both units cease by c. October 1970 and it is assumed that this is the end date for the series.

Whether information similar to that recorded in this series was recorded in a subsequent series is unknown. VPRS 8146, Index to Particular Occasion Permits by Date Operable, may be subsequent to this series although the arrangement of the contents of that series is by date of occasion rather than alphabetical by name of organization and that series records POPs issued to various unlicensed premises.
