This series consists of a register of all tenders received by the Melbourne Tram & Omnibus Company from contractors. Details regarding each tender are recorded in single paragraphs summarising each tender, the prices quoted and a note of whether the contract was accepted or declined.
Unit one has an alphabetical index at the front of the volume with page references to each business firm mentioned in the register.
The layout of each page is similar to that of an accounting ledger (the register is contained in a ledger book) with identical numbers printed in black on each facing page. The page numbers employed in the actual register are printed in red.
The pages are divided into columns with entries in each column recording the date of each tender (or the date it was entered in the register) the particulars of the tender and the price quoted by the firm of company for supply of equipment or labour.
The P1 consignment of this series contains one volume marked with the number '2', suggesting that an earlier volume had been created but was not extant at time of transfer into PRO custody. The entries in the P1 consignment end prior to the conclusion of the volume. It is thought that this series was abolished in 1922, the date of the last entry.
Preservation Statement
This series has extensive mould and water damage, resulting in the loss of information towards the back of the volume. Conservation measures need to be taken to ensure continued preservation.
