This series consists of volumes containing copies of correspondence outward from the General Manager of the Tramway Board (VA 2693). The General Manager appears to have had responsibility for the overall operation and maintenance of the cable tram system and ensuring continuity of the service. From June 1916 to October 1919 the signatory was the Tramway Board General Manager. From 1 November 1919 the Tramway Board ceased to exist with its responsibilities transferring to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (VA 2694). The correspondence in this series is signed, after 1 November 1919, by W.O. Strangward as Secretary and Acting General Manager, and from 1 March 1920 to 1 December 1922 by the Manager, Cable Systems - these positions relate to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board.

From November 1919 the correspondence relates almost exclusively to the purchase and shipping of cable. Volume 2 has no entries on the final pages numbered 494 to 510.
