    How to Use this Series

There are no known control records to this series. Refer to the Records Description Lists for a description of contents.

    Function/Content

This series consists of working files created or kept by Harry W. Nunn, Senior Archivist Archives Division, State Library of Victoria 1955 to 1973 and subsequently Keeper of Public Records, Public Record Office from 1973 to 1981 and his successor Chris Hurley.

The records relate primarily to the administration of the Archives Division and subsequently the Public Record Office. Many of the files relate to the Public Records Advisory Council and to the development of the Public Records Act 1973.

The P1 consignment also contains records relating to Mr. Nunn's activities in conjunction with various professional bodies, including the Records Management Association of Australia at both the federal and state level.

The P2 consignment contains working files created by Chris Hurley between 1982 and 1991.

The files in the T1 consignment are personnel files (both position and personal files) created during Harry Nunns term of office.

    System of Arrangement and Control

There does not appear to have been any discernible system of arrangement or control over the records in the P1 and P2 consignments, other than general descriptors sometimes applied to file covers. The files in the P1 and P2 consignments have been boxed and listed in the order in which they were found. It is not certain this was the original order of the records

The files in the T1 consignment are arranged alphabetically by surname.

    Date Range

Many of the files contain material which pre-dates the possible collection or compilation of the material by Mr. Nunn. The contents date range has been identified from the date of the items. The series date range has been identified as the period in which Mr. Nunn and Mr Hurley were employed in the Archives Division and the PROV.
