How to use the Records
Researchers should refer to VPRS 5920 Pastoral Run Files [Microfiche Copy of VPRS 5359] available in Reading Rooms.
This series is closed to public inspection under Section 11 Public Records Act 1973.
Function / Content
This series consists of files relating to pastoral occupation in Victoria. They are divided into General Papers and the files relating to each pastoral run.
General Papers are arranged according to subject dealing with government policy, administrative procedures, regional correspondence including such matters as boundaries, trespass, rentals, the stock assessments (see VPRS 77 Return of Livestock and Stations) and the administration of leases and licenses to occupy.
Individual run files might include copies of leases and licenses and correspondence regarding them, a full description of the run, requests for the transfer of a lease or license, returns of livestock and complaints. The run plan, if it existed, has been abstracted and may be seen as part of VPRS 8168 Historic Plan Collection or in VPRS 244 Microfiche Copy of Pastoral Run Plans. A sheet with the original plan number has been left with each file.
Recordkeeping System
General files have been organised according to subject.
Pastoral run files are in alphabetical order of name of run and within each file, in chronological order.
