How to use the Records
In relation to unit 1 consult the index for the page number for that prisoner. In relation to unit 2, scan the register for the relevant period when the prisoner commenced his sentence. The records in this series are fragile. They have been closed under Section 11 of the Public Records Act in the interests of their preservation. For this reason, these records are not available for public inspection.
Function / Content
The purpose of the registers is to record details about seamen whom are imprisoned on the hulks. Information about the prisoners includes a personal description, name of ship, offence, sentence, date of conviction, the name of the hulk where confined and the date when discharged from custody. Unit 1 is indexed.
Recordkeeping System
The entries in the registers are arranged by the registration number allocated to each prisoner.
