Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
Consult Consignment Details for the unit containing the time period of interest.

  • Function / Content
This series consists of Schedules submitted to the Mines and Water Supply Division of the Board of Land and Works for approval. Business to be dealt with included approval of leases and licenses, the letting of tenders and the sealing of contracts and other business matters. Often, Board of Land and Works approval was mandated by legislation.

Each Board had the same President and specific other representatives from the Departments under the Board's mandate. Usually two members deliberated on matters and signed the completed schedule. Some matters dealt with by the Board also had to be submitted to the Governor-in-Council.

Details given in these schedules are the Board Number (the number on the Schedule), the Office Number (the file or correspondence number allocated by the Department), the name of a person or place where applicable, the subject of the matter, the Board's recommendation and its decision.

It is believed that records in this series were held either as originals or duplicates by the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) which itself came under the mandate of VA 744 Board of Land and Works until 1964.

  • Recordkeeping System
Schedules were consecutively numbered for each year and filed in chronological order.
