Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
Scan the Consignment Details List to locate the relevant volume.

If there is an index to contractor's name located at the beginning of the volume, consult the index to locate the entry of interest.

Where there is no index, researchers will need to leaf through the volumes to locate the reference of interest.

  • Function / Content
This series consists of contract ledgers created by Korumburra Waterworks Trust (VA 2110) and their successor, Korumburra Water Board (VA 4723).

This series registered and summarized contracts let by the Authority. Section 251 of the Water Act 1890 (No. 1156), and similar provisions in later Water Acts stated that contract registers were to specify the several works to be done and the materials to be furnished and the prices to be paid for the same and the times within which the said works were to be completed and the said materials to be furnished.

  • Recordkeeping System
Each contract was allocated a unique registration number. This was often recorded as a annual single number, or as a running number with a letter prefix. The letter prefix indicated the area in which the work was carried out. A new administrative system was introduced from circa 1986, which altered the numbering system from an annual single number to a multiple number with an alphabetical suffix.

Indexes were in some cases created for contract registers. Where an index was created it was generally arranged alphabetically by the surname of the contractor at the beginning of the volume.

Contracts of an administrative nature, ie for the day to day running of the Authority, were interspersed with engineering contracts.
