  • How to use the Records
    Refer to the Consignment Details and identify the unit that hold the despatches for the required period.

  • Function / Content
    This series consists of copies of despatches, forming the official channel of communication from the Governor of Victoria to the British Secretary of State responsible for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

    The date range of this series is subject to further research.

    Copies of despatches were filed separately apparently until 1949, refer to VPRS 1084. During the period ? 1950 to ??1962 they were filed within the series of outward correspondence VPRS 7578.

  • Recordkeeping System
    Despatches were arranged in chronological order and numbered sequentially. Copies of despatches were originally placed in letter boxes.
