Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
Consult this series to identify items of interest in VPRS. General correspondence files, alpha-numeric series I. The extant portion of the index relates only to some files created up till April 1988.

  • Function / Content
This series indexed files in VPRS 14393 General Correspondence Files, Alpha-numeric Series I. That series documented a wide range of the Exhibition Trustees' administrative activity, and comprised inward and outward correspondence and internal memoranda.

  • Recordkeeping System
Until about 1992, files in VPRS 14393 General Correspondence Files, Alpha-numeric Series I were registered in accordance with a classification scheme in which each broad function was allocated a number and an alphabetical code. Within each classification the general policy file was identified by the number and alphabetical code, and then action files were numbered sequentially. For example, for the Reports function the policy file was 4/EXORG, the first action file was 4/1/EXORG, the second action file was 4/2/EXORG, and so on. Evidence of the classification scheme is derived from an index (this series, VPRS 14391) dated 21 April 1988. A copy of the 1988 index was found with VPRS 14393 in 2003; no other control records have been located.
