This series consists of records of correspondence which had been received by the Board of Land and Works and referred by them to the responsible officials within the Departments dealing with the matters for which the Board was responsible. These meant reference was made regarding lands and survey to the Assistant Surveyor-General and the Assistant Commissioner for Lands, to the Public Works Department (VA 666) and the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964). Original letters may already have been referred to the Board of Land and Works by other officials such as the Secretary for Mines and the Chief Secretary so often the reply was to return the correspondence to those officials. Other replies included forwarding to other officials for noting or action to be taken.
