  • How to use the Records
    No name indexes are known to have been created for this series. Researchers will need to know the approximate date on which the verdict was issued. Once known, the relevant book can be identified by reference to the Records Description List for the series. The Records Description List records the date range for each book.

  • Function / Content
    Successive County Court Rules have required the court to keep a record of all verdicts, orders and judgements of the court. The verdict book is the authoritative record of the court.

    Immediately after the sitting of the court the judgements were written up in the register from the verdict book. The latter book was used for recording the judgements as they were delivered in court.

    This series was used to maintain a record of verdict in insolvency and criminal jurisdiction.

    Details recorded include:
    - Case number,
    - Names of the plaintiff and defendant,
    - Date of trial,
    - The order of the Judge and
    - Amount to be paid (in the case of insolvency)

    Cases were registered in numerical order for each court hearing
