  • How to use the Records
Step 1 Call up the index.

Step 2 Identify the item of interest. The Index is arranged in alphabetical order by the subject covered in the circular.

Step 3 Look up the corresponding registered number. The first prefix indicates the year of issue.

Step 4 Refer to the Records Description List of VPRS 10993 which holds the Circulars.

Step 5 Identify and request the unit which holds the circular you require.

  • Function / Content
The Index to Circulars was created by the Department of the Treasury (VA 865) during the period 1936 to 1977 in order to access the circulars (contained in VPRS 10993) by subjects.

The Index contains the following information:

    subject of circular
registered number - including an annual prefix (68/291)

The circulars were issued to the Permanent Heads of Departments and relate to various accounting, personnel and other administrative matters.

Some of the circulars were filed within the Central Correspondence System. It appears that these were marked with the letter R following the annual prefix.

  • Recordkeeping System
The Index is arranged in alphabetical order by the subject covered in the circular.

As part of the recordkeeping system an annual List of Circulars was also created
    (refer to VPRS 11161).

The circulars are located in VPRS 10993.
