Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
Consult the Consignment Details for the unit containing the date range for which information is required.

Note that the contents of Units 2, 3 and 4 of the P consignment need to be read in conjunction with the contents of Units 1 and 5.

  • Function / Content
This series consists of the Minute Books of VA 2266 Closer Settlement Board (previously known as Lands Purchase and Management Board ) and its successor, VA 2268 Closer Settlement Commission. Members of the Board (and Commission) met at regular intervals with meetings spread over two or three days.

Matters dealt with at these meetings were to do with the approval of applications for closer and soldier settler allotments, instructions to officers regarding visits and assessments, passing accounts for payment, decisions regarding the purchase of land to be used for settlements and other matters as set out in the relevant Acts or referred to the body for advice or decision.

  • Recordkeeping System
Minutes are in chronological order. Researchers should note that Units 2, 3 and 4 of the P consignment are portions of the minutes for meetings otherwise recorded in Units 1 and 5. Meetings took place over more than one day. The evidence is that at the adjourned meeting on the second or the third day the only matter discussed was the recommendations for the purchase of property with these minutes being pasted into the volumes separately from those for the other items on the agenda.
