The Plain English Committee was appointed by the Premier in 1976 to advice on the use of English in State Departments and public authorities in Victoria and in the community at large.

This Committee examined samples of forms, notices, letters, reports and memoranda used by Departments and authorities and considered whether those documents needed to be made simpler and more acceptable.
