The Consumer Protection Act 1970, operative from 16 November 1970, established the Consumer Affairs Council as successor to the Consumers Protection Council (VA 2734).
The Consumer Affairs Council was abolished in 1983 under the Consumer Affairs Committee Act 1983 which established the Victorian Consumer Affairs Committee (VA 3136) to replace the Council.
